About Us
Celebrating Community and Neighborhood since 1958
The Wenshaw Park Civic Association is a local Merrick, NY-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that represents 217 North Merrick families. We are very proud to be the oldest Merrick-based civic association, as we have been serving and celebrating this community since 1958.
Our Commitment
2. To continue the execution of the initiatives and hard work of all who have served before us
3. To continue to act as the collective voice of this special community both internally and externally with our Town, County and community stakeholders
4. To continue to preserve the beauty and safety of Wenshaw Park
5. To continue to celebrate community as has been done since 1958
Our History
There are three “secrets” to making our community look-and feel-different than most others in the area:
1. Power lines were installed behind all homes so the front trees can grow and form the park-like feel and canopy with which Wenshaw Park has become synonymous; this is, of course, quite different from most neighborhoods that must trim their trees to keep branches from impacting the power lines in front of their homes.
2. The sycamore trees are set back on the front lawns rather than at the curb aprons in order to provide a sense of openness. This design has allowed the trees to form a wider canopy toward the center of each street thus allowing residents and guests to see more of the community when looking up and down any of our streets.
3. The streets were not constructed as a typical grid, but rather soft curves were designed to provide a more natural park-like feeling; having fences installed in the front yards of our homes creates barriers and inhibits the original builders’ design and limits the intended sight lines.
